대학생의 학생참여 유형과 유형별 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 대학생 학생참여 하위변인 수준에 따른 군집유형이 존재하는지와 이러한 유형의 분포가 개인 특성과 대학의 특성에 따라 차이가 있는지를 탐색하였다. 이를 위하여 한국교육개발원의 전국 대학생 학생참여 조사(National Assessment of Student Engagement of Learning, NASEL)자료를 이용하였으며, 대학에 재학 중인 38,208명의 자료를 최종 분석에 사용하였다. 연구 결과, 학생참여 유형은 적극적 참여형, 수업 중심 참여형, 수업 외 참여형, 교우관계 중심 참여형, 소극적 참여형 5개의 유형으로 분류되었고 소극적 참여형이 가장 높은 분포(37.4%)를, 적극적 참여형이 가장 낮은 분포(9.3%)를 보였다. 남학생보다는 여학생이, 대학 진학 첫 세대인 학생, 그리고 자연계열 학생들이 소극적 참여형이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 대학규모와 소재지에 따른 학생참여 유형은 중소규모의 비수도권 대학에서 적극적 참여형이, 대규모의 수도권 대학에서 소극적 참여형이 높게 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 학생참여를 제고시키기 위한 정책적 방안을 논의하였다.

Using the National Assessment of Student Engagement in Learning(NASEL) this study examines a typology of college students' engagement with activities in and outside college and its different distributions based on individual and institutional characteristics. The subsample is comprised of 38,208 students. We could find that a) 5 student groups were obtained from hierarchical cluster analysis – positive engagers, negative engagers, class-centered engagers, outside class-centered engagers, peer relation-centered engagers, and b) Different distributions in gender, first-generation college students, college size and location, and students' major existed in the 5 student groups. We discussed that this study's findings could help faculty and college administrators improve students’ success.
