Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of mothers with children about UV rays and sunscreen and their use and purchase of sunscreen products by demographic characteristics in an effort to grasp the state of the sunscreen market for children and provide information on UV protection and the right use of sunscreen. This study is also expected to provide manufacturers of sunscreen for children with information on effective product planning and successful marketing strategies tailored to consumer needs. Whether the mothers knew there were separate sunscreen products for children on the market was analyzed, and the majority (92.6%) knew the fact. The largest group(81.3%) thought sunblock products for children would include no stimulative ingredients. The reason that they applied sunscreen for children to their children was analyzed, and the greatest group(59.9%) wanted to protect the sensitive skin of their children from UV rays. What improvements they thought should be made in sunblock products for children was analyzed, and the largest group(62.2%) replied sunscreen should be safe enough not to hurt the skin. The reason why some of them didn't use sunscreen for children was analyzed, and the biggest group(39.6%) feared the ingredients of sunscreen would be irritant. concerning top priority for the purchase of sunscreen, the greatest group(62.9%) gave top priority to the safety of sunscreen for the skin. The biggest group(49.5%) bought sunscreen for children at large discount stores, followed by the Internet and department stores. Given the findings of the study, The safety of the ingredients of sunscreen products for children should be guaranteed not to do harm to children's sensitive skin, and early education should be provided for them to learn about UV rays and how to block UV rays in order to be aware of their harmfulness. Besides, they should learn about the right use of sunscreen products to keep away from a skin cancer. Thus, how to protect the skin from UV rays should carefully be considered at a social level.
