Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of ropeless-skipping exercise for the prevention and improvement of obese middle school students and to provide the basic information of the effective exercise program for the physical strength and growth improvement. Twenty-one obese middle school students were randomly assigned and divided into three groups: EG1(Rope-skipping exercise group, n=7), EG2(Ropeless-skipping exercise group, n=7), CG(Control group, n=7)and the ropeless-skipping exercise had been operated for 10 weeks(45∼70% of HRR(heart rate reserve), 3days/week,45mins/day). Paired t-test and Analysis of Covariance were performed to analyze the difference among groups. Significance was set at a value of α<.05. The results are the followings. First, the rope-skipping and ropeless-skipping exercise groups showed significant increases in HDL-C(p<.001) and significant decrease in LDL-C(p<.01) and TC(p<.01), and LDL-C(p<.05) level was increased in the control group. Also, after 10 weeks, there were significant differences in TC(p<.001), HDL-C(p<.01), LDL-C(p<.001) among three groups. Second, growth hormone level had been increased in rope-skipping and ropeless-skipping exercise groups (p<.001) and after 10 weeks, the comparison significant difference among three groups(p<.01). In conclusion, ropeless-skipping exercise is effective for obese middle school students by increasing HDL-C and decreasing TC and LDL-C. Also, this exercise promotes secretion of growth hormone levels. Therefore, the ropeless-skipping exercise program of this study will have positive effects on not only obese middle school students but also the other adolescents to increase physical strength and accomplishing healthy growth..
