‘화랑 김원술 모티프’ 문예화 계보와 역사 전유 양상

Abstract

본 논문은 계보학적 관점에서 김원술 모티프의 문예화에 내재된 역사 전유 양상의 흐름을 조망함으로써 한국 근대 역사문학사의 일단을 궁구한 연구다. 위와 같은 연구 목적의 달성을 위해 김원술 모티프를 최초로 문예화한 이윤재의 희곡 <金元述의 悔恨>, 김상덕의 사화(史話) <김원술의 어머니>, 그리고 이광수의 단편 역사소설 <元述の出征>을 계보학적 관점에서 분석하였다. 그 결과 허구적 역사 전유의 극작술이 최초로 구사된 <金元述의 悔恨>이 ‘김원술 모티프’ 문예화 계보에서 일종의 원형 서사로 기능한다는 사실, 그리고 변주 없이 사료의 기록을 저자 당대의 문맥 안에 재배치함으로써 새로운 정치적 메시지를 창출해낸 김상덕의 사화 <김원술의 어머니>와 이윤재의 역사극 <金元述의 悔恨>이 이념적 지향은 달랐으나 프로파간다(propaganda)의 역사담물이었다는 점에서는 다르지 않다는 사실을 확인하였다. 본 논문의 최종적인 논의는 이광수의 <元述の出征>을 저본 삼아 각색한 대본으로 반도가극단과 극단 태양이 무대에 올렸다고 추정되는 두 편의 <花郞道> 공연이 거둔 대중적 성공 요인을 파악하는 작업으로 수렴되었다. 이들 공연 관련 정보를 분석한 결과 김원술 모티프의 문예화는 1920년대 중반 민족주의 이념의 고양을 명분으로 맹아를 틔운 이래 제국 담론 전파의 나팔수로 전변한 식민시기 역사문학 전개의 궤적을 고스란히 관류하고 있다는 결론에 이르렀다.

It is a study that grasped one side of Korea’s modern historical literature by analyzing the aspect of Kim Won-sul motif’s literary appropriation from the genealogical point of view of this paper. In order to fully achieve the above research objectives, this study first analyzed on Kim Sang-deok’s a historical tale, “Mother of Kim Won-sul,” and Lee Kwang-soo’s short story, “The Origin of Won-sul,” starting with Lee Yoon-jae’s play “Regret of Kim Won-sul,” which was the first literary work of Kim Won-sul motif. After the above work was released, the popular success factors of the historical play “Hwarangdo,” which was performed by the Bando Theater Company and the theater company Taeyang, were discussed. As a result, it has been concluded that Kim Won-sul motif’s literary acceptance is in line with the colonial-era historical literature’s trend that has been transformed into a trumpeter of the spread of imperial discourse since it began in the mid-1920s with the enhancement of nationalist ideology.
