학령 전 후기 BMI 변화와 아동의 학교적응 및 자아존중감과의 관계

Abstract

요약: 본 연구는 만 4세와 초등학교 2학년 간의 체질량 지수(BMI) 변화와 아동의 학교적응 및 자아 존중감과의 관계를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 만 4세에서 초등학교 2학년 사이의 체질량 지수 변화를 파악하기 위하여 한국아동패널 6차 2013년도와 9차 2016년도의 자료를 활용하였고, 최종 분석 대상자는 1,131명이었다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아동의 체중 변화를 항상 과체중이었던 그룹, 과체중이 된 그룹, 정상체중이 된 그룹, 과체중이었던 적이 없었던 그룹을 구분하였을 때 학교적응과 자아존중감은 그룹별에 따라 평균값에 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 여아의 경우 항상 과체중이었거나 과체중이 되었을 때 자아존중감에 영향을 주는 것으로 파악되었다. 셋째, 남아는 과체중이 된 경우 학교적응 중 학업성취와 유의미한 관계를 파악할 수 있었다. 결과적으로 학령기 전후의 체중 변화는 성별에 따라 자아존중감 및 학교 적응에 상이하게 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었고 이러한 결과를 토대로 아동기 비만 예방과 관리에 대한 실천적 함의를 논의하였다.

This study is to examine the relationships between BMII change between age 5 and second grade and school adjustment and self-esteem when they were in second grade. To achieve this, this study used 1,131 children from the Panel Study on Korean Children with regression analysis. The results were as follows. First, there were four groups by BMI change from preschool to second grade-always overweight, became overweight, became normal weight, and always normal weight. Second, there were differences between BMI change group and children’s school adjustment and self-esteem when they were in second grade. Third, there were significant differences between BMI change and school achievement for boys who had became overweight in second grade. In conclusion, there were variations between BMI change from preschool to elementary school and school adjustment and self-esteem by gender. Implication upon the importance of children’s physical development and preventing obesity were discussed.
