요소 명제와 색깔 배제 문제

Abstract

중기 비트겐슈타인 철학을 체계적으로 이해하고자 할 때 가장 결정적인 문제 중 하나는 『논리-철학 논고』에서 규정된 완전한 분석이라는 개념이 어떻게 변화하고 수정 되었느냐 하는 것이다. 『논고』에서 완전한 분석이 요소 명제와 필수 불가결한 관련을 맺고 있고 또 『논고』를 침몰시키는 데 결정적이었던 이른바 색깔 배제 문제가 요소 명제의 개념과 본질적인 관련이 있다는 점을 염두에 두면, 우리는 색깔 배제 문제를 살펴봄으로써 (중기 비트겐슈타인 철학에서의) 완전한 분석 개념의 행방을 가늠할 수 있다. 그렇다면 색깔 배제 문제는 정확하게 무엇이고 또 왜 그 문제는 『논고』의 체계에 대해서 치명적이었는가? 중기 비트겐슈타인은 이 문제를 어떻게 해결했으며, 그리하여 “완전한 분석”은 어떻게 변모하고 수정되었는가? 나는 이 글에서 『논고』와 ｢논리적 형식에 관한 몇 가지 소견｣을 중심으로 색깔 배제 문제와 완전한 분석 개념을 둘러싼 물음들에 대답하고자 한다.

One of the most decisive problems when we are to systematically understand the middle Wittgenstein’s philosophy is how the concept of complete analysis stipulated in the Tractatus was transformed and modified. Bearing in mind that complete analysis has an indispensable relation with elementary proposition in the Tractatus and that the color exclusion problem which was decisive in the collapse of the Tractatus has an essential relation with elementary proposition, we can trace out the whereabouts of the concept of complete analysis in the middle Wittgenstein’s philosophy by way of the color exclusion problem. What is then the color exclusion problem? Why was that problem so fatal to the system of the Tractatus? How did the middle Wittgenstein solve this problem and furthermore how was the concept of complete analysis transformed and modified? In this paper, I will endeavor to answer these questions surrounding the color exclusion problem and complete analysis by focusing on the Tractatus and “Some Remarks on Logical Form”.
