교체의 조건과 규칙성에 관련된 몇 문제에 대하여

Abstract

둘 이상의 이형태가 하나의 형태소에 속할 때 이 이형태들은 특정한 조건에 따라 교체한다고 기술한다. 그런데 형태소에 따라서는 이형태들 사이의 교체를 기술하는 것이 어려운 경우가 생긴다. 그러므로 기저형이 표면형으로 실현되는 과정을 교체라고 기술하는 것이 필요하다. 교체의 조건은 이형태가 출현하는 환경을 의미하는데 표면형의 전후에 나타나는 언어 단위를 교체의 조건으로 기술할 경우에도 문제가 생길 수 있다. 이런 경우에는 음운론적 도출 과정에서 해당 표면형의 도출의 환경을 해당 이형태의 교체 조건으로 기술할 필요가 있다. 동일한 환경인데 두 가지 이상의 교체 현상을 보일 때 어느 쪽을 규칙적 교체로 볼 것인지가 문제가 된다. 본고에서는 교체의 범위가 더 넓은 쪽을 규칙적 교체로 보아야 한다고 주장하였다. 용언 어간의 교체에서는 동일한 환경의 체언의 교체와 같은 방식의 교체를 보이는 쪽을 규칙적 교체로 보자고 제안하였다. 활용 패러다임의 입장에서 교체를 기술하는 경우에는 기존에 규칙적 교체로 보았던 것을 불규칙적 교체로 볼 수 있으나 활용의 패러다임을 어떻게 확정할 것인지에 대한 논의가 더 필요할 것이다. 한국어 용언의 활용형은 매우 많은데 제한된 활용형 패러다임에 대한 논의만으로 교체의 규칙성을 온전히 파악하기는 어렵다.

In this paper, we examined targets and conditions of the alternation and reviewed the issues related to the regularity of the alternation. When describing the alternation, we may consider the targets of alternation as morphs. When two or more morphs belong to a single morpheme, these forms are described as being alternated under certain conditions. However it is sometimes difficult to describe alternation with morphs. Therefore, it is necessary to describe the process of underlying forms being realized as surface forms. The conditions of alternation refer to the environment in which these forms appear, Sometimes the description of alternation can be problematic if the language units that appear before or after the surface forms are described as conditions for alternation. In such cases, it is necessary to describe the environment for deriving the surface form as a alternation condition for that morph in the derivational process. Automatic alternation has been understood to mean regular alternation, but certain alternations which are automatic alternations may not be considered regular alternations. When two or more alternations are made in the same environment, it is a matter of which side to view as regular alternation. The wider scope of alternation should be regarded as regular alternation.
