교육심리학에서의 목표 연구를 통해 본 교사의 역할과 전문성

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 교육심리학에서 목표가 가지는 중요성을 기반으로 학습자의 목표설정 및 발달을 위해서 교사가 해야 할 역할이 무엇인지, 나아가 목표와 관련하여 교육전문가로서 갖추어야 할 전문성이 무엇인지를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 목표 연구의 동향을 전반적으로 파악하되, 특히 교육심리 영역에서 최근 이루어져온 목표 연구의 흐름을 분석하였다. 교육심리 영역에서의 목표 연구는 목표 자체가 지니는 학습효과에 집중하는 연구, 목표를 학습동기이론과 연계하는 연구, 학습자 삶 전체를 포괄하는 생애목표 연구, 그리고 목표를 사회적 차원으로 확대한 연구라는 네 가지 흐름으로 정리할 수 있다. 이러한 흐름 분석을 통해 교육심리 영역에서의 목표는 개인의 학업수행을 촉진시키는 역할뿐만 아니라 개인의 삶 전체 차원에서도 삶의 의미와 가치를 탐색하고 추구해나가도록 하는 원동력으로 작용함을 확인하였다. 이와 더불어 사회적 가치를 고려하여 수립된 개인의 목표는 공동체 발전에도 긍정적으로 기능함으로써 사회에 중요한 역할을 함을 알 수 있었다. 목표가 개인 및 사회적 차원에서 갖는 이러한 중요성에 따라 교사는 학습자의 학업수행 차원뿐만 아니라 학습자 개인의 삶, 그리고 사회적 차원을 고려한 지원체계를 마련해줄 수 있도록 전문성을 갖추어야 한다.

The purpose of this study was to explore teacher’s roles and professional competencies in promoting learner’s goal-setting and development based on importance of goals in educational psychology field. To achieve the purpose, this study reviewed previous researches on goal and goal-setting theory and found out recent trends of the researches especially in the educational psychology field. The main trends of the recent studies on goals were as follows: studies focusing on goals' effects on learning, studies connecting goals with learning motivation, studies covering learner’s life goals, and studies expanding goals to social dimension. Through this analysis of the trends, we identified that the role of goals in educational psychology field is considered not only as promoting learner’s performance in learning settings but also as supporting individual to explore and seek the meaning and value of life throughout one’s life course. Moreover, setting individual goals considering social value plays an essential role for our society by functioning in social development positively. According to the importance that goals have for both individual and society, teachers should develop teaching professionalism in order to provide learners with a supportive system considering individual whole life and the society as well as their performance in learning contexts.
