- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Korean Youth Self Report(K-YSR), which had been developed to access adolescents emotional and behavioral problems by Achenbach(1991).
The participants were nationwide standardized samples, that is 6570 middle and high school students(2549 boys and 4021 girls) completed K-YSR. To examine the construct validity many symptom scales were administered 1909 students(936 boys and 973 girls). To confirm the construct validity of K-YSR it was administered the correlation analysis between K-YSR and K-CBCL(Korean Child Behavior Checklist), and for the external validity it was administered the correlation analysis between K-YSR and many symptom assessment scales, that is CES-D(Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale), RCMAS(Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale), K-CATS(Korean-Children Automatic Thoughts Scale), PS-1 of OSIQ(Psychological Self-1 of Offer's Self Image Questionnaire) and LDQ(Latent Delinquency Questionnaire).
It was showed high internal consistency coefficient between .63 and .85.
The criterion validity was revealed by high correlations between the Internalizing Behavior Problems including Withdrawn, Anxious/Depressed, and Somatic Complaints. And it was showed that high correlations between the Externalizing Behavior Problems including Delinquent Behavior and Aggressive Behavior. The construct validity was showed high correlations between K-YSR and K-CBCL subscales. Moderate and high correlations was obtained between Internalizing Behavior Problems in K-YSR and RCMAS as well as CES-D and K-CATS. It was obtained high correlations between Externalizing Behavior Problems in K-YSR and PS-1 of OSIQ as well as LDQ.
In conclusion, K-YSR appears to be a highly reliable and valid measure to assess adolescents' emotional and behavioral problems.
