염상섭의 [사랑과 죄]론

Abstract

본고는 민족적 정체성을 회복하려는 염상섭의 서사적 욕망이 사랑과 죄에서 발현되는 양상을 작품의 認識論的 構造와 情緖的 構造의 변증법적 연관성 속에서 해명하고자 했다. 사랑과 죄의 인식론적 구조는 ‘지평인물’ 김호연이 추구하는 社會主義的 價値 體系에 의해 틀지워지고 있다. 식민지적 삶의 조건으로 인해 正體性의 混亂을 겪는 인물들이 새로운 삶을 정립해 가는 데 김호연이 반성적인 거울로 기능하고 있기 때문이다. 정서적 구조의 층위에서 사랑과 죄는 남성 주체 중심의 민족 정체성 회복의 욕망을 드러내고 있다. 이러한 敍事的 慾望은 鄭마리아와 池順榮 등과 같은 여성의 身體를 他者化하는 과정을 통해 表現된다. 그러나 이 같은 사랑과 죄의 서사적 욕망은 역설적인 의미를 갖는데, 그것은 여성의 身體를 他者化하는 제국의 욕망과 서로 呼應하기 때문이다.

This thesis is focused to examine the way how Yeom, Sang-seop's narrative desire to revive national identity in “Love and Guilt” is revealed in the dialectic relation between a cognitive structure and a emotive structure of text.The cognitive structure in “Love and Guilt” is built by socialist values that Kim Ho Yeon, a ‘horision-figure’, pursues. That is because Kim, Ho-yeon is playing a role as a reflective mirror in forming new lives of characters who are in confusion over the colonial life conditions.“Love and Guilt” is showing a desire to revive a national identity centered around male subjects on the aspect of a emotive structure' level. This narrative desire is expressed in a process of the otherizing female bodies such as Jeong Maria and Jee, Soon-yeong. This “Love and Guilt” narrative desire, however, is paradoxical because it corresponds with the imperialist desire to estrange female bodies.
