Abstract
The binding energy, density, and incompressibility (saturation properties) of normal nuclear matter are reproduced using a Lagrangian with approximate chiral symmetry. The pion-ring series including nucleons and s provides the necessary attraction and its density dependence, while the effects of the scalar field are not significant, and vacuum-polarization effects are expected to be small. © 1989 The American Physical Society.
