- Abstract
- This paper aims to examine the propaganda activities through the films in Manchukuo. In particular, this paper focuses on analysing how the Manchukuo Film Association, which was established by government of Manchukuo and Mantetsu, to produce films for particularly for public propaganda purposes, and the actress Li Xianglan, who was the main star of the Manchukuo Film Association, carried out colonial propaganda activities in their films. Based on the findings, this paper tries to explain the underlying targets of Manchukuo Film Association film production at the time with the film China Nights, as an example of the propaganda of the colonial ideology. Furthermore, this paper tries to explain how Li Xianglan became a main character of the propaganda activities and through her dual identity.
