포괄적 유물론에 기반한 배치 모델 탐구

Abstract

최근 수학교육에서 포스트휴머니즘의 관점을 따른 많은 연구가 이루어졌다(de Freitas, Ferrara, & Ferrari, 2019; de Fretias & Sinclair, 2013; Ferrara, & Ferrari, 2017; Moon & Lee, 2020; Ng & Ferrara, 2020). de Freitas & Sinclair(2014)는 교육 현상에서 인간의 힘에만 주목하려 하였던 기존 접근을 비판하며 등장한 이러한 연구들을 가리켜 포괄적 유물론(Inclusive materialism)이라 명명하였다. 포괄적 유물론을 따른 연구들은 인간과 비-인간 물질의 구조적 배열, 즉 기계적 배치(assemblage)가 형성되면서 수학 학습이 일어나는 양상을 분석한다(Ferrara & Ferrari, 2017; Moon & Lee, 2020). 이 관점을 따르면 수학 학습 과정에서 학생이 새로운 의미와 맞닥뜨리는 것은 교사와 학습자의 신체 그리고 다종의 물질 사이 기계적 배치가 형성될 때 가능하다. 여러 연구를 통해 수학 학습 과정에서 작용하는 물질의 행위성을 포착하고 설명할 수 있게 되었으나, 아직 여러 물질의 구조적 배열이 형성되며 수학 학습 과정이 어떻게, 어떠한 양상으로 이루어지는지를 설명한 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 물질의 구조적 배열이 변화할 때 나타나는 비언어적인 학습자의 변화는 기존의 인간 혹은 담론 중심적 연구만으로는 온전히 설명하기 힘들다는 점에서, 수학 학습 과정의 물질적인 측면을 설명하는 모델을 도출하는 작업이 새롭게 요구된다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 포스트휴머니즘 및 포괄적 유물론의 논의에 기반을 두고, 학습 과정의 물질적인 측면을 설명하는 배치 모델을 도출하는 것을 목표로 한다.

The purpose of this paper is to present a new model explaining how the mathematical teaching and learning process proceeds with the formation of structural arrangements of various heterogeneous materials, that is, mechanical assemblage. Based on the discussion of post-humanism and inclusive materialism, this paper presents the assemblage model that analyzes material changes that appear in the mathematics teaching and learning process. The assemblage model describes the process in which learners encounter new meanings through changes in physical habits, changes in language usage, and confusion among learners as structural arrangements of various materials are newly rearranged.
