Comparison of Premeditation, Forensic Awareness, and Violence in Break-in and Street Robberies

Abstract

본 연구에서는 한국에서 발생한 738건의 침입 강도 사례와 607건의 노상 강도 사례를 비교하였다. 우선, 침입 강도 가해자들은 노상 강도 가해자들에 비해 연령대가 높았으며, 이전에 강도를 저질렀던 전력이 더 많았던 것으로 나타났다. 두 번째로, 침입 강도 사건과 노상 강도 사건에서 범행의 대상이 되는 피해자의 특성에 있어 다른 패턴이 나타났는데, 특히 피해자의 연령대와 가해자와의 관계, 피해자의 음주 여부 등에 있어 현저한 차이가 나타났다. 세 번째로, 침입 강도의 경우 범행의 사전 계획성이 더 두드러지게 나타난 반면, 노상 강도는 범행에서 심각한 폭력성이 나타나는 경우가 훨씬 더 많은 것으로 드러났다. 네 번째로, 본 연구에서는 침입 강도와 노상 강도를 구분하는 데 기여하는 변인들을 확인하였는데, 여기에는 범행 대상이 되는 피해자의 사전 선정, 범죄자의 신원이 드러나는 것을 피하기 위한 복면 등의 위장, 피해자를 통제하고 구속하기 위한 끈이나 줄 등을 통한 결박 등이 포함되었다. 마지막으로, 본 연구 결과가 범죄 수사 및 강도 범죄 예방, 피해자 치료에 대해 갖는 정책적 함의에 대해 논의하였다.

We compared 738 cases of break-in robberies and 607 cases of street robberies in South Korea. First, we found that perpetrators of break-in robberies were older and more likely to have previously committed robbery than those of street robberies. Second, our study showed that favorable targets were different for break-in and street robberies, in terms of victim’s age, relationship to the perpetrator, and whether the victim was under the influence. Third, we found that break-in robberies were more strongly associated with premeditation, whereas street robberies were characterized by more severe use of violence. Fourth, we determined several variables that contributed to differentiating break-in robberies from street robberies, including pre-selecting a target, wearing a disguise, and binding the victim. Finally, we discussed policy implications of the study for crime investigation, robbery prevention, and victim treatment.
