Abstract
This study used a qualitative research methodology to explore therapist's experience on the use of board games in play therapy. The seventeen play therapists who had more than 10years of clinical experience were interviewed about their experience for collecting data. And then, theses data were rated with Consensual Qualitative Research tool. The results revealed 21 themes: the results summarized as follow. Fist, therapeutic components of board games included related factor, diagnostic factor, promotion of expression, promotion of development, ego enhancement and understanding, parent counseling's utilization. Second, difficulties in the use of board games include 5 therapist factors.: difficulty on the intervention of child who avoid deal with uncomfortable emotional issues, counselor's countertransference, difficulty in a developmental approach of using board games, lack of proficiency in methods of using board games, lack of proficiency in using board games depending on theoretical preferences. Third, coping strategies of difficulties in the use of board games include 5 factors: coping strategies in counseling session, coping strategies out of counseling session, training strategies, environmental strategies, knowledgeable strategies. This present study provides a plethora of valuable data to improve the training of therapists and the continuous improvement of their skills.
