부모의 자녀 ‘돌봄’ 경험의 의미 탐구 : 자녀 교육기관에 함께 참여하는 부모의 가정 내 역할 분담 경험에 관한 내러티브를 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 자녀 돌봄 경험에 대한 부모들의 이야기를 통해 현 시대의 ‘돌봄’이 어떤 모습인지 살펴본 내러티브 연구이다. 공적 돌봄의 확대와 돌봄에 참여하는 아버지의 증가는 현 시대 ‘돌봄’의 변화를 보여주고 있다. 그럼에도 실제로 자녀를 돌보는 과정에서 부모가 경험하고 있는 돌봄이 어떤 모습인지 드러내는 연구는 부족하다. 본 연구는 돌봄에 대한 사회적 양상을 대변할 수 있는 예시 집단인 자녀의 유아교육기관에 함께 참여하는 부모 8명을 대상으로 ‘돌봄’ 경험에 대한 내러티브 연구를 진행하였다. 연구 결과 자녀의 교육기관에 함께 참여하는 부모의 돌봄은 가사일과 자녀 돌봄이 모두 어머니에게 치중된 ‘기린형 돌봄’, 아버지가 놀아주기나 교육 등 일부에만 참여하는 ‘사자형 돌봄’, 어머니와 아버지가 함께 의견을 조율하고 합의하는 ‘펭귄형 돌봄’의 세 유형으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 부모의 자녀 돌봄은 단순히 어머니와 아버지의 성(性)역할 분담으로 구분되지 않으며, 현재도 계속 변화중인 담론임을 시사한다. 본 연구를 통해 현 시대의 자녀 돌봄의 의미와 변화 방향에 대한 새로운 탐색이 이루어지기를 기대한다.

This study is a narrative research that examines how parents care for their children in the current era through the stories of their experiences of caring. The expansion of public child care and growing number of fathers who participate in child care show that the aspects of ’caring’ is changing nowadays. Nevertheless, there is a lack of research that reveals what parental experiences when caring for their children. This study conducted a narrative research on the caring experience of eight parents who participated in early childhood education institutions which could be an exemplary group representing the social aspects of child care. As a result, the following three types of child care experiences of parents who participate in their child’s educational institution appeared; ‘giraffe child care’, in which both household chores and child care were concentrated on mothers, ‘lion child care’, in which fathers participated in only some part of child care such as playing with or teaching their child, and ‘penguin child care’, in which mothers and fathers coordinated their opinion and agreed together. This suggests that ‘child care’ is not simply a division of gender role between a mother and a father, but also still a changing discourse. It is hoped that this study would help searching for the meaning of ‘child care’ in the present era and the direction of change.
