dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to suggest a direction for the development of unique nail art design by studying the concept of healing in Kusama Yayoi works. In terms of research methods, literature records on the healing properties of the contemporary Japanese artist Kusama Yayoi, and nail art were analyzed. In an empirical study, nail art designs were sketched using Adobe Illustrator CC 2015, and then the works were designed. The result is as follows: The obsessive-compulsive disorder expressed in Kusama’s works were expressed by full of dots, nets and phallus. The self-healing process begins with repeating the act of making artworks. Later days of her works described motifs such as mirror rooms, pumpkins, flowers. In order to apply the motives of Kusama’s works, a total of 6 nail art works (3 for obsession and 3 for healing) were designed. For ‘Design I’ expressing the obsession with dots, various sizes of dot glitters and lines were used. ‘Design II’’s small lines express the obsession with nets. In ‘Design III,’ to apply Kusama’s obsession with phallus, acrylic powder and liquid were used. In ‘Design IV,’ to apply the concept of healing in “infinite mirror room”, shiny nail films and glitters were used on dark-colored base. ‘Design V expresses the concept of healing with the motif of famous “pumpkin”. For ‘Design VI,’ the flower motif of Kusama’s recent installation works was adopted, 3D figure of tulips were attached on top of UV gel painted surface. | - |
