Abstract

윤이상(1917-1995)은 자신의 음악을 집대성하는 총 다섯 개의 교향곡 작곡(1982/83-1987) 을 끝마치고 나면 더 이상 작곡을 하지 않고 마음으로 음악을 들으며 쉬고 싶다는 생각을 말한 바 있다. 그러나 1987년 그의 70세 생일에 초연된 교향곡 5번 이후에도 윤이상의 창작활동은 1994년까지 멈추지 않고 계속되었다. 그의 전체 작품(총 119곡)의 약 30%에 해당하는 36개의 작품들(대부분이 실내악곡)이 교향곡 이후 칠십이 넘은 나이에 작곡되었다. 윤이상의 창작열은 생의 마지막 시기에 병과 힘들게 싸우면서도 꺼지지 않았다. 1994년 9월 윤이상은 그가 간절히 염원하던 고향으로의 귀국이 성사되기 바로 직전에 무산되자 심한 충격으로 건강이 극도로 악화되었으며, 자신의 삶이 얼마 남지 않았음을 직감하고 써야 할 작품을 서둘렀다. 이렇게 탄생한 윤이상의 마지막 세 작품은 「클라리넷 5중주 Ⅱ」, 「오보에 4중주」, 「화염 속의 천사와 에필로그」다. 이 작품들에는 자신의 음악적 근원에 대한 기억과 피안(彼岸)의 경지에 이른 듯한 내면세계가 형상화되어 있다. 본 연구는 자신의 죽음을 예감하며 작품 창작에 열중한 윤이상의 말년의 창작 작업을 ‘기억과 내면세계의 미학’이라는 관점으로 조명하고 있는 논문으로, 기억과 상징의 방식을 통해 표현되는 그의 음악의 표현양식과 표현내용의 본질적 의미를 분석적으로 고찰하고 있다.

Isang Yun (1917-1995) said that he would like to rest with listening to music after completing his five symphonic compositions (1982/83-1987) that compiling his own music. However, even after the Symphony No.5 premiered on his 70th birthday in 1987, he continued his creative activities until 1994. 36 works (mostly chamber music), about 30% of his entire works (119 pieces), were composed after he was 70s. Sickness at the end of his life could not keep him from his desire to composition. In September 1994, Isang Yun hastened to work on his composition because he felt that his life is not long after his health was severly aggravated by a severe shock when his return to his hometown was canceled.《Quintett für Klarinette und Streichquartett II》,《Quartett für Oboe und Streichtrio》, and《Engel in Flammen. Memento für Orchester mit Epilog für Sopran, dreistimmigen Frauenchor und fünf Instrumente》are the last three compositions created in this manner. In these works, the memories of his musical origins and an inner world were shapes. This study illuminates the creation of the late years of Isang Yun with a viewpoint of ‘Aesthetics of memory and inner world’. It analyzes the essential meaning of expression tyle and contents.
