- Abstract
- This paper intends to research that E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web focuses on
interconnectedness, sustainablity and durability of all the living things in an
ecological vision. This novel represents the process that a spring pig Wilbur is
saved by the spider Charlotte as a life saviour and she fulfills her responsibility
for the succession of her species. White realizes the harmonies of nature and
culture in his fantastic space of the barn, by applying the art of American gardening.
White suggests the diversity and reciprocity by admiring the glory of
everything in this novel.
Charlotte’s writing suggests that saving Wilbur is interconnected with the
well-being of animals in the barn as an eco-system. After his salvation, doing
the duty for her species’ succession proves to be her effort for the durability
and tenacity of life. Therefore Charlotte’s plot for saving Wilbur is included in
the equilibrium process of all creatures in the broader comic ecological drama.
For the adaptation and accommodation of survival, White suggests the ecoconsciousness
that all the living things have their own ways of highly complex
elaborated life, primarily conserve the sustainablity beyond the ideal moralism,
and should live as the part of nature.
