- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to suggest the circuit weight training program in smokers. It was to examine the effects of muscular strength and cardiopulmonary functions in smokers. Thirty healthy men, aged between 22 and 27 years old, were divided into two group: those who non-smokers(n=15, 24.47±.52yrs) and who smoked cigarettes(n=15, 23.87±1.85yrs). One maximum repetition, cardiopulmonary functions were measured. And the results were as follows:1. One maximum repetition with bench press both in smokers and in non-smokers was significantly increased(p<0.001~0.05). 2. One maximum repetition with squat both in smokers and in non-smokers was significantly increased(p<0.001~0.05). 3. Ventilation was significantly increased both in smokers and in non-smokers after circuit weight training(p<0.001~0.05). Ventilation according to smoking history was decreased as smoking history was increased.4. Tidal volume was significantly increased after training both in smokers and non-smokers(p<0.001~0.05). Tidal volume according to smoking history was increased as smoking history was decreased.5. Forced vital capacity was significantly increased after training both in smokers and non-smokers(p<0.001~0.05). Tidal volume according to smoking history was increased as smoking history was decreased. 6. First-second forced expiratory volume was significantly increased both in smokers and in non-smokers after circuit weight training(p<0.001~0.05). Ventilation according to smoking history was decreased as smoking history was increased.
The results suggest the positive effects of circuit weight training on muscular strength and cardiopulmonary functions in cigarette smokers.
