- Abstract
- 본고에서는 McCarthy(2002)에서 제안된 CMT의 이론적인 구도 내에서 주장된 SLPC의 위치동화 분석이 내포하고 있는 문제점을 제기하는 것으로부터 논의가 시작되었다. McCarthy는 조부효과를 비롯하여 CMT에 의해서만 포착이 가능한 언어학적 일반화들이 다양한 음운과정에 걸쳐서 존재하고 있음을 설득력 있게 주장하였다. 그러나, 본고에서는 McCarthy의 SLPC 위치동화분석을 따를 경우에 계승분류에 의한 국어 및 영어의 위치동화패턴의 설명이 불가능함을 지적하고 CMT의 이론적인 틀 내에서 이를 수정하고자 시도하였다. 결국, 본고에서 도입한 새로운 보편제약 및 서열에 의하면 SLPC의 위치동화패턴을 올바르게 분석해 줄 수 있을 뿐 아니라 국어와 영어의 위치동화에서 보여주는 공통점 및 차이점까지 정확히 설명해 줄 수 있게 되었다. CMT를 이용한 N*Cor의 설정과 충실성제약의 단순한 서열변경이 다양한 위치동화패턴을 초래한 것으로 증명된 것이다.
