연결주의 학습이론에 관한 이론적 탐색과 평생학습에 주는 시사점

Abstract

이 연구는 기술의 디지털화를 기반으로 모든 것이 상호 연결되어 가는 사회 체계의 변화 안에서 인간의 학습 또한 일련의 연결의 과정으로 규정되어 가고 있다는 문제 의식을 바탕으로, 변화하는 사회의 맥락과 환경에 대응할 수 있는 학습에 대한 새로운 접근을 탐색해 보고자 한다. 연결주의 이론은 복잡성 이론, 사회적 구성주의, 포스트모더니즘을 이론적 기반으로 네트워크, 분산 지식, 창발, 패터닝 개념을 제시하며 학습에 대한 새로운 논의를 전개해 가고 있다. 이 틀에서 데이터, 정보, 지식은 네트워크에 의해 상호 연결되어 끊임없이 변화해 가기 때문에, 학습은 맥락에 적합한 연결을 이해하고 형성해 가는 일련의 연결의 과정으로 구성된다. 학습자들은 네트워크에 연결하여 새로운 정보를 찾고 공유하며 새로운 학습의 관점에서 그들의 믿음을 수정한 다음, 그들의 새로운 이해를 공유하고 더 많은 정보를 찾기 위해 다시 네트워크에 연결한다. 연결주의 이론을 독립적인 혹은 대안적인 이론으로 볼 수 있을지에 대해서는 비판적인 논의들이 존재하지만, 이 이론은 네트워크라고 하는 연결망 개념을 통해 개인, 조직, 사회로의 지식의 흐름과 사회 체계의 상황적 변화를 설명할 수 있는 가능성을 가지고 있다. 이와 같은 개념과 설명의 틀은 향후 평생학습 영역에 있어 네트워크 학습 체계의 자율성, 다양성, 상호작용, 개방성 등의 특성과 이를 원칙으로 발생하는 창발적, 자기 조직적 학습을 이해하는 데 도움을 줄 뿐 아니라, 적응력 높은 네트워크 학습 체계를 설계하는 데 실질적인 방법론을 제시해 줄 수 있을 것이다.

The connectivism was established as a learning theory by Siemens and Downes in 2005 to explain learning in the current technology and knowledge based society. This theory criticizes previous learning theories and raises different perspective on learning. The purpose of this study is to critically review connectivism and find implications to the field of lifelong educational study and practice. To achieve this purpose, this study explore and analyze philosophical roots and critical concepts of connectivism. After that, this study examines current trends of research related with connectivism and suggests some implications. Connectivism is influenced by three main philosophical roots such as complexity theory, constructionism, and postmodernism. Based on these, connectivism raises different perspectives on truth and values from other learning theories. So, connectivism argues that the subject of learning is the network and knowledge and meaning is distributed to all over the nework, not belong to individual any more. Also, connectives suggests eight principles and some important concepts such as network, emergence, distributive knowledge and patterning in order to explain learning. Though connectivism have been criticized because of its perspective on knowledge and meaning, many studies and practices have been conducted based on suggestions of connectivism. From this perspective, connectivism could contribute to expand the boundary of study on lifelong education and educational practices.
