초록
Research on mental health professionals’ real-world disaster experiences is limited. This study explored the experiences of seven mental health nurses who provided psychological support to victims of the April 11 Gangneung wildfire. Two focus group interviews conducted between May and October 2023 were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) thematic analysis. Three phases emerged: “Stepping into Disaster Psychological Support,” “Engaging in Disaster Psychological Support,” and “Finding Meaning in the Experience,” comprising nine themes and 29 subthemes. Nurses began with enthusiasm but felt uncertain about their roles, managed diverse victim emotions using psychiatric nursing skills, and faced structural barriers to ongoing support. Overall, disaster support was experienced as professional growth, strengthened by peer cooperation, and provides foundational insights for future disaster mental health programs and policies.
