Issey Miyake's ingenious design, which emerged in the world's fashion community, has its unique beauty of "Yugen"(which refers to profundity), which reveals its specialty not only in design itself, but also in design fashion shows, photographic advertisements, or exhibition displays. This study analyzes the relationship between the theoretical root of Yugen and design through theoretical discussions of the beauty of Yugen, which has been expressed in the design universe of Issey Miyake up to the year 2001. The beauty of Yugen, which is internal aesthetics that feels "hidden beauty", implies remaining emotion or suggestion, which was not felt in full. It is expressed in metaphor, symbol, or suggestion, not expressed in straightness or specificity. The beauty of Yugen is not such a thing that is felt on the spot, but an impression that is felt in changes over time after various processes, which stimulates viewers' imagination. It is not such a thing that is viewed as it is in reality, but mysterious mentality that seeks a high state that cannot be reached or supernatural universe. The effects by the beauty of Yugen, which developed through Japanese literature or kabuki, have been revealed in traditional cultural properties, historical relics, or daily decorations in various forms. After many centuries, they represent the ingenuity of Japanese culture in the world as symbols that symbolize Japan. The beauty of "Yegen" in Issey Miyake's design is expressed as plane and pictorial design that does not reveal the full shape of clothes, as the expression of temporal flow and process, as variability of irregular shape, dynamic sympathy of incompleteness, while "the mystery of supernatural universe" is expressed as supernatural artificial beauty.
