유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 양육스트레스와 양육효능감의 관계: 사회정서역량의 매개효과

초록

This study examined the effect of parenting stress on parenting self-efficacy among mothers of young children and the mediating effect of social-emotional competence in this relationship. An online self-report survey was administered to 279 mothers of young children, and the data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 30 and the PROCESS macro Model 4. The results showed that child-related and parent-related parenting stress were significantly and negatively correlated with social-emotional competence and parenting self-efficacy, whereas social-emotional competence was significantly and positively correlated with parenting self-efficacy. Social-emotional competence partially mediated the relationship between overall parenting stress and parenting self-efficacy. At the subfactor level, the indirect effect of child-related parenting stress was not significant, whereas social-emotional competence partially mediated the relationship between parent-related parenting stress and parenting self-efficacy. Although child-related parenting stress was negatively correlated with parenting self-efficacy, its regression coefficient became positive when parent-related parenting stress was controlled for, suggesting a possible suppression effect due to the high correlation between the two subfactors. These findings suggest that, to enhance parenting self-efficacy among mothers of young children, counseling and parent education programs should go beyond guidance on child behavior to alleviate the psychological burden mothers experience in their parental role and to strengthen their social-emotional competence, particularly emotion regulation, self-awareness, and relationship skills.
