This study explores ways to address the decoupling of Korea’s retirement system by analyzing Japan’s Self-Career Dock system through literature review and interviews with experts from three Japanese institutions. The findings are as follows. First, while Japan sets the minimum legal retirement age at 60, decoupling in the retirement system is rare. Second, the Self-Career Dock system plays a key role in resolving this issue. Third, Japan implements long-term career development management before retirement. Fourth, utilizing this system benefits both employees and organizations. Fifth, the Japanese government actively promotes its expansion. Based on these findings, Korea should establish legal and institutional measures to help older workers manage their careers and transition smoothly to retirement.
