A grounded theory approach was used to investigate the factors that led S.L.B to win the 2020-2021 WKBL finals. Data were collected by in-depth interviews with nine participants including the head coach, the assistant coach, and seven players of the team in the Women’s Korean Basketball League(WKBL). Data were analyzed by open coding, axial coding, and selective coding proposed by Strauss and Corbin to establish a paradigm. In addition, the core category was provided based on a story outline. In result, sixteen upper categories and thirty-four lower categories were found from the data analysis. By axial coding, the advance to the WKBL finals was identified as the causal condition, and the contextual conditions included fear of strong teams, motivation, self-management, responsibility and autonomous playing. The central phenomenon was the desire and eagerness to win, and the intervening conditions were confidence, positive attitude, and thorough preparation for the games. The interaction strategy included the head coach’s leadership, team cohesion, active communication, and high concentration. The outcomes were the win in the championship as well as challenges and expectations for the future. In this study, detailed discussions are made on how interactions in team sports like basketball can lead to great performances.
