The purpose of this study is to develop the lesson plan for high school general music class of history of western music based on PBL (problem-based learning) using smart learning and verify the effectiveness of the class. The PBL lesson plan for two classes were developed based on the PBL model presented by Kyungeon Lee(2002), and teaching materials were also created. The classes were conducted with 73 students of three classes of J Women’s Highschool located in Seoul. After the classes, the survey was conducted to investigate the students’levels of satisfaction, understanding, and interest about the classes. In addition, the students’peer review and self evaluation sheets which were conducted during the classes were analyzed. The results indicated that the PBL music classed of western music history using smart learning were more effective than traditional music class in satisfaction, understanding, and interest, The analysis of students’reviews also presented that students could develop responsibility, cooperation, and comprehensive study of music.
