This study examines how issues of modern sexism—represented by debates surrounding the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family— have influenced voter evaluations of politicians and political parties in the 2024 National Assembly election, held under President Yoon Suk-yeol’s administration. The analysis focuses on whether key modern sexism issues, including women’s candidate quotas, women’s military service, and perceived privileges of gender equality policies, affected voters’ political judgments. The findings indicate that among modern sexism issues, the women’s candidate quota exerted the strongest influence, significantly shaping both politician and party evaluations. In contrast, women’s military service and perceived gender equality privileges had only partial effects on voters’ evaluations. Moreover, the results suggest that the impact of modern sexism issues varies according to political orientation. Specifically, these issues were found to affect evaluations of progressive politicians more strongly than those of conservative politicians. Regarding party evaluations, modern sexism issues had no significant effect on the People Power Party, but significantly influenced evaluations of the Democratic Party of Korea. These findings indicate that modern sexism has emerged as a salient issue exerting greater influence on progressive parties within contemporary South Korean politics.
