초록
This study investigates the creation of self-healing art through Upcycling, centered on the personal life narratives of the researcher within a society dominated by materialism and consumerism. In the process of transforming products that had served their original purpose or been discarded into new artistic creations, the researcher became aware of their own imperfections and initiated a process of self-healing, aiming to restore a healthy sense of self. The research methods included 1) studying Upcycling expression techniques and 2) exploring artistic approaches to self-healing. Based on these findings, the study further examined the self-healing effects facilitated by the creative process of producing floral artworks using Upcycling techniques. To concretize the findings, the researcher utilized Upcycling to transform discarded, seemingly meaningless items into valuable, meaningful objects. This process was showcased in an exhibition titled "SOMETHING FROM NOTHING,” illustrating the new worth of Upcycled materials. From this perspective, the researcher created five artworks titled. Throughout the creative process, the researcher experienced the possibility of healing. The artworks were crafted using recycled objects such as discarded bicycles, electrical outlets, old books, and used threads, linking them to the researcher's experiences. This approach not only concluded the personal creation process of the researcher but also aimed to evoke empathy among contemporary audiences. By utilizing commonly discarded materials, the researcher identified with these objects and incorporated them into the artworks, reflecting the emptiness and loneliness felt amidst the material abundance of a consumer-driven society. The works also expressed the stress from human relationships, yet they embodied a determination for change. The researcher expanded the scope of this study to explore how Upcycling, a viable alternative to addressing environmental issues, can be used in artistic creation to facilitate self-healing. This approach seeks to mitigate the universal experiences of stress and anxiety that are inevitable in human life through therapeutic artistic practices. The process of combining industrial waste with natural materials such as flowers and plants was documented, resulting in artworks that embody new values and meanings. This study has shown that Upcycling can serve as an alternative expression method in floral artworks, enhancing creativity and further establishing it as a medium for self-healing, thus highlighting its potential.
