초록

Amidst the global proliferation of K-Culture, this study aims to explore effective teaching methods that integrate traditional Korean culture with practical spoken expressions to support foreign visitors and residents in successfully adapting to life in Korea. To this end, this study examines the content and modern transformation of the ingwi(人鬼交驩) narrative as depicted in “EouYadam”, a collection of unofficial historical tales from the mid-Chosun period, and the modern fantasy drama <Guardian: The Lonely and Great God>. Based on this analysis, a teaching and learning model for spoken expressions was designed. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, the stories of <Park-yeop’s Ghost Intercourse a with> and <Shin-sukju and Cheongui-dongja> in “EouYadam”, along with the narratives of human interactions with mysterious entities in the drama Guardian, were all identified as traditional ingwi(人鬼交驩) narratives. Just as the supernatural beings in classical tales served as helpers and guardian deities for the characters, the mutual interactions among characters in Guardian exhibit narrative continuity by compensating for each other's deficiencies and pioneering their own destinies. Second, utilizing the text of Guardian—which inherits this traditional narrative—the study concretized methods for teaching “omission of subjects and predicates” and “contracted words,” which are spoken expressions that foreign learners frequently struggle with. In particular, the scene in Episode 1 where humans encounter Samshin Halmoni and the death messenger, and the scene in Episode 3 where the human Ji Eun-tak visits the Goblin's house, were proven to be effective educational texts that visually demonstrate both the modern transformation of the human-ghost intercourse narrative and authentic spoken expressions. Third, to facilitate a more effective acquisition of the narrative and Korean spoken expressions, the study applied classroom activities such as creating parallel texts proposed by the “Whole Language Approach” and role-playing from the “Total Physical Response” method. Through creating parallel texts, learners can grasp the ingwi(人鬼交驩) narrative, and through group activities and role-playing, they can naturally internalize spoken expressions. This study holds significance in that it identifies how the traditional Korean of ingwi(人鬼交驩) narrative is inherited by modern mass media and applies this to language education, thereby presenting a practical method for foreign learners to simultaneously embody traditional Korean culture and practical spoken language. However, since the effectiveness of the designed model has not been empirically verified in actual Korean language classrooms, this task is left for future research.
