초록
This study explores how a music autobiography program fosters self-reflection in older adults and influences changes in self-identity and emotional expression. Nine elderly participants recalled their life stories and selected or composed music that represented each life stage, organizing their narratives thematically and chronologically. Using qualitative content analysis, the study examined participants’ autobiographical texts, musical scores, and emotional records. Data were coded and categorized into key life themes, emotional shifts, and relationship dynamics to uncover personal meaning and transformation. Findings reveal that music acted as an emotional catalyst, evoking memories and promoting self-acceptance. It also supported emotional expression, interpersonal communication, and the recovery of social connectedness. Through this process, participants reconstructed their life narratives and recognized a sense of self-continuity, contributing to psychological integration in later life. The study highlights the potential of music-based arts education as a meaningful tool for self-reflection and community restoration among the elderly. It suggests the need for longitudinal research with more diverse participants and the development of autobiography programs integrating other arts forms.
