초록

As maps contain distinctive characteristics in physical and contextual aspect, special cataloging rules for maps are being used apart from books. Although Western cataloging rules have been used to catalogue modern Korean maps, they are not easy to be applied to old Korean maps since Korean maps have different traits in visual and hierarchical aspect. This study understands status and problem of Korean rare map cataloging rules after investigating 1,043 records of Korean rare maps. The study suggests proposals on 1)guideline for selecting a standardized method of naming maps when maps have common nouns in their title or titles are unknown, 2)utilizing the earlier studies of the geographic names of Korea for estimating the publication date, 3)improving search efficiency method by utilizing the uncontrolled index term after characterizing the rare map as typology and cladistic analysis.
