초록

The belief of Bhaiṣajyaguru was based on the Sutra of Bhaiṣajyaguru, according to saving all those who was sick and suffered from poverty and it would also prolong the life span. For this, believers should observe eight commandments and light lamps and hang ribbons. It also promise all devotees who wish to reborn in the East paradise, and will lead to the Pure Land. The belief of Bhaiṣajyaguru was spread in East Asia by the commentaries of the Sutra of Bhaiṣajyaguru. In 7th and 8th century, Huiguan(慧觀) of Tang, Daehyeon(大賢) of Silla and Zenju(善珠) of Japan wrote commentaries of that sutra. Yaoshijingshu(藥師經疏), partially preserved in the Dunhuang collection, Huiguan shows strict section and detailed explanation. The commentary of Huiguan was beginning style of that commentary. Daehyeon's Bonweonyaksa gyeonggojeok(本願藥師經古迹) shows systematic section, but he explained briefly about twelve Great Vows and nine sudden death. He also gave a full explanation about six forbidden days and commandments. Zenju's Yakushikyōsho(藥師經疏) shows most complete explanation and he wrote about the outline of the sutra. His explanation is similar to that of Huiguan's. Kuiji(窺基), Jingmai(靖邁) and Huiguan in Tang, Gyeongheung(憬興), Doryun(道倫) and Daehyeon in Silla, Zenju in Japan, the Yogacara School masters wrote the commentaries of the Sutra of Bhaiṣajyaguru. With these, the belief of Bhaiṣajyaguru was accepted in East Asia society. Comparing these commentaries of Huiguan, Daehyeon and Zenju, we can see that they had similar type of section and different explanation. They contributed to establish the belief of Bhaiṣajyaguru in their country each other.
