비혼 청년의 결혼 기대와 부담 유형 및 유형별 결혼⋅부모됨 의향 비교

초록

Objectives: This study aims to identify subtypes of marriage expectations and burdens among unmarried young adults, and to examine the predictors for each subtype as well as differences in marriage and parenthood intentions. Method: Data from 548 unmarried young adults aged 20-39 residing in Seoul were analyzed using latent profile analysis(LPA) with Mplus 8.1. Subsequently, a 3-step approach was applied to examine predictors of profile membership and differences in marriage and parenthood intentions across profiles. Results: First, four profiles consisting of ‘High Expectation-Low Burden,’ ‘Low Expectation-Moderate Burden,’ ‘High Expectation-High Burden,’ and ‘Moderate Expectation-Moderate Burden’ were identified. Second, profile membership varied significantly depending on demographic, socioeconomic, and relationship-related characteristics, as well as perceived marital norms of significant others. Third, significant differences were found in marriage and parenthood intentions across the profiles. Specifically, groups with high marriage expectations showed higher intentions for both marriage and parenthood. Conclusions: This study confirms the coexistence of marriage expectations and burdens among unmarried young adults, resulting in diverse profiles based on their combination. Furthermore, the findings indicate that marriage expectations are more strongly associated with marriage and parenthood intentions than burdens. Accordingly, this study suggests the necessity of establishing conditions that can enhance and fulfill young adults’ marriage expectations.
