초록

This study examined the relationship between the privacy concern and the privacy protection strategies on the Internet with the expectation that the greater concerned with privacy the more strategies are used. The privacy concern was measured with 21 questions that assess the degree of concern people may have when they use the Internet. The use of privacy protection strategies was measured by asking 12 questions. Participants indicated how much they use each strategy (i.e., I regularly erases cookies). A total of 300 people with male and female half-split were surveyed. As a result, it was found that for some questions, women rated higher concerns and lower use of privacy protection strategies than men. In oder to seek out the effect of gender in the relationship between the privacy concern and the use of privacy protection strategy, we did the post-analysis which revealed the moderating effect of gender. The result of test shows that the privacy concern predicts the use of privacy protection strategies and moreover men are more active in the privacy protection strategy use than women are. The finding was discussed in the perspective of gender differences.
