This study investigated empathic parenting including empathy, learning involvement, and difference in these characteristics according to demographic variables such as gender, grade, education and economic levels of the parents, and also analyzed effects on ego-resiliency of the adolescents. The subjects of the study were 1,769 students between grade 5 to grade 12. T-test and ANOVA analysis was performed in order to analyze differences in these characteristics according to demographic variables. And multiple regression analysis was performed in order to identify which among the parenting characteristics have effects on ego-resiliency of the adolescents. In the result, the father had higher acceptance of viewpoints than the mothers and the mother had higher emotional perception and learning involvement. The empathic parenting and learning involvement were either more negative or insufficient for higher grade students than for lower grade students, and for students from families of lower economic status and education level than those from families of higher economic status and education level. The factors that had the greatest effects on ego-resiliency of the adolescents were awareness of emotion of the father, emotional reaction of the mother, learning option grant of the mother, and provide academic information of the mother in the order, explaining 34% of the ego-resiliency of the adolescents. The findings show that, for mothers’ involvement in learning of the children, it is more helpful to encourage more autonomous and reasonable performance and give a choice to the children, and, for fathers, to be more sensitive and empathetic when interacting with the children. Also, in this study, the variable related to economic status of the families resulted in significant difference in all areas of emotional support from the parents. Therefore, it is necessary to provide emotional support to students of lower economic status and less social privilege.
