This study is the first full-fledged discussion of Choi Yun-su’s <Admiral Yi Sun-shin> which dramatized the ‘Yi Chungmugong’ motif during the colonial period. Modern writing, which took advantage of the life of Yi Chungmugong as a motif, began to be literaryized by historical and biographical literature. Yi Chungmugong motif was listed in modern literature through the creation of Yi Gwang-su’s historical novel 『Yi Sun-shin』, and Choi Yun-su’s historical drama <Admiral Yi Sun-shin>. Since then, there has been no literaryized case of Yi Chungmugong motif until 8․15 Liberation. After 8․15 Liberation, Yi Sun-shin is summoned to the theater again through the creation of Kim Tae-jin’s <Imjin Japanese Invasion> and <Yi Sun-shin, Admiral>, which is believed to have adapted it. Kim Tae-jin’s two texts were created as a déjà vu of Choi Yun-su’s <Admiral Yi Sun-shin>, which was created in the midst of the social and cultural movement called “Reservation Movement of Yi Chungmugong” in the early 1930s. The main conflict in Kim’s two texts between the exploitation of the ruling class represented by the Royal Court liege men and the sacrifice of Yi Sun-shin is placed at a counterpoint raising the dichotomy of good and evil, which reminds us of Choi Yun-su’s <Admiral YiSun-shin>. Along with such similarities, there are also differences as the three texts are created and adapted from different discourse topography. In particular, these texts at the level of the author’s perception of history reveal distinctly different aspects. The specific point is the figure of Yi Sun-shin. In <Admiral Yi Sun-shin>, Yi Sun-shin is portrayed as a human hero who is obsessed with passion. On the other hand, it appears as a complete hero in <Imjin Japanese Invasion>, and furthermore it is idolized in <Yi Sun-shin, Admiral>. After these discussions, this study confirms that <Admiral Yi Sun-shin> is the only work created prior to <Imjin Japanese Invasion> and <Yi Sun-shin, Admiral>, and that the variation in the composition of the drama that doubts the reproduction of <Admiral Yi Sun-shin> is found as a common factor in Kim Tae-jin’s two texts.
