초록
This study explored the meaning of play in early childhood and elementary education continuity through the play of preschoolers and elementary school students. It consisted of two parts: the first study was conducted in 2019 with 5-year-olds and 6th-grade elementary school children, and the second study was conducted in 2023 with 5-year-olds and 1st-grade elementary school children. The play activities included group and free play, reflecting the opinions of the children, all of which were conducted at the same elementary school. The play of both the child care center and elementary school students was characterized by “playful caring” filled with mutual care, and “encounters” with existing media. Through play, the elementary school students formed “various relationships,” while the preschoolers created “rules that permeate daily life.” They shared “times where experiences intertwined,” enriching the play by sharing their experiences despite their age differences. When life with others is became increasingly rare, the play of preschoolers and elementary school students revealed new forms that went beyond the characteristics of traditionally presented play, highlighting the significance of play in fostering a more collaborative and equal relationship between early childhood and elementary education.
