The purpose of this study is to understand a Japanese Theraplay with “viewing instruction from pupil’s perspective” which is a instruction research method. And this study intended to figure out a proper way of Theraplay adequate to Japan culture by preliminary dimension. For this purpose we adapted the research method of “viewing instruction from pupil’s perspective” to a Theraplay case. To use “viewing instruction from pupil’s perspective” we studied the purpose and procedure of it. And we re-designed the procedure of “viewing instruction from pupil’s perspective” to understand a Theraplay case of “Momo” who is 3 years old lived in Tokyo. In the process of Theraplay, Momo’s answers were in discord with therapist’s questions. And she avoided therapist action with smile. These actions of her might be interpreted as a disobedience against therapist. But in the context of Japanese culture, her actions mean to harmonize with therapist covering her heart. And when she failed her strategy she tried to recover her hurt heart by duplicated action. Considering this interpretation it is necessary to provide her a chance to do what she wants more. According to the case of understanding of the Theraplay case of “Momo” with “viewing instruction from pupil’s perspective”, it can improve the validity and effectiveness of Theaplay. It attributes to the characters of Theraplay which is flexible and quicksilver. And “viewing instruction from pupil’s perspective” can be adapted to research play-therapy or art-therapy too.
