초록

Accelerating globalization for trade and tourism has brought about diverse and huge impacts of the shipping and maritime transport on human health, such as ship pollution, shipping transferred diseases, and so on. Sources of ship pollution are ballast water, exhaust emission, oil spills, and cruise ships. From the occupational health point of view, seafarers' representative diseases included stress, noise-related hearing loss, musculoskeletal disorders, sleepiness, infections such as Hepatitis B, sexually transmitted diseases, and so on. In addition, chemicals are becoming a serious concern in the marine environment. A thorough scientific evaluation of their toxicity and ecological risk in marine environments is urgently needed. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
