This study analyzed the relationship between work volition, work constraints, career adaptability, and career-related anxiety among college students to provide foundational data for career guidance and educational programs. A survey was conducted with 222 students (130 female, 92 male) from metropolitan universities. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN and AMOS 28.0, employing descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, mediation analysis, and structural equation modeling. The findings revealed a significant correlation between work volition, career adaptability, and career-related anxiety. Work volition positively influenced career adaptability and reduced career-related anxiety, whereas work constraints negatively affected career adaptability and increased career-related anxiety. Additionally, career adaptability partially mediated the relationship between work volition and career-related anxiety. In conclusion, university career programs should not only support the career aspirations of students but also address the factors that may explicitly or implicitly impact job preparation. Enhancing career adaptability can help reduce career-related anxiety. These findings provide valuable insights for improving career counseling and guidance programs at universities.
