This study set out to help the participants who tried repeatedly and experienced to cease non-suicidal self-injuries more vivid and profound understanding about non-suicidal self-injuries in the process of reconstructing the meaning of their experiences by being the center of the subject of recognition with actual experiences through narrative inquiry. For these purposes, the study examined the life stories of participants to understand how they experienced the onset and cessation of self-injuries according to the three-dimensional narrative inquiry space of time, society, and place and constructed the meanings of their experiences. Collected data was analyzed in the procedure of narrative inquiry proposed by Clandinin and Connelly(2000) and findings were as follows. The participants led a life filled with the pain of loss and agony, being shaken by them, and they spoke to themselves and alleviated their pain by inflicting self-injury onto themselves to endure their internal pain. Self-injury has been a personal communication in their own space without sharing their pain with others and not asking for help. As they renewed the perceptions of social communication, they took still moving toward directing their own point of life. They reevaluated the meaning of their experiences and categorized with researcher into five topics: ‘a star falls, and I am lost’, ‘tightrope walking in a narrow boundary’, ‘support for my existence’, ‘a life compass’, and ‘a path toward me’. Based on these findings, the study discussed their experiences of non-suicidal self-injuries and implications for counseling in the contexts of personal, practical and social legitimacy. In addition, significance and suggestions of these study results were presented.
