초록
Objectives The purpose of this study is to explore the life changes experienced by elderly women in inscription through literacy education and to present specific suggestions for maximizing the effectiveness of literacy education. Methods A case study using in-depth interviews was conducted on seven elderly female literacy learners attending a post-primary education course at an adult literacy education institution in Seoul. Efforts were made to increase validity and reliability through triangular verification through research interview records and confirmation of research participants. Results Literacy education has become an important curriculum that improves the quality of life beyond simple acquisition of reading and writing skills for elderly women with inscriptions. Through literacy education, elderly women have experienced various changes such as improving self-esteem, forming social relationships, and improving emotional health. In particular, sharing experiences before and after class contributed to reducing feelings of isolation and forming new social relationships. Furthermore, elderly women go through a process of self-awareness by looking back on their past experiences and present emotions, and through this, they have achieved emotional stability and improved quality of life by discovering the meaning of life. Conclusions Literacy education makes a significant contribution to improving the quality of life, promoting self-esteem, securing emotional stability, and forming social relationships for elderly women in inscription. It functions as a key educational intervention that enriches the overall life of an individual and reaffirms its value as a social being beyond simple character decoding ability. In order to realize effective literacy education, systematic research on the establishment of an inclusive educational environment, strengthening digital literacy capabilities, forming a social support network, and long-term effects is needed. Active support is required to promote social communication and establish self-identity for more elderly women through the continuous development of literacy education and policy and educational efforts.
