초록

The purpose of this study was to verify whether a Korean leadership training program, which was developed for undergraduate students in South Korea, was also internationally sustainable beyond language and region. For this purpose, a group of Korean professors, who co-developed a leadership training program for Vietnamese undergraduate students, visited Quy Nhon University in Vietnam, and delivered the intensive five-day long leadership program from July 8 to 12, 2019. The program consists of six core leadership modules, special lectures, and leadership mentoring activities. The six core leadership modules include self-esteem, visioning, creativity, time management, problem solving, and communication. A total of 40 Vietnamese students from diverse majors and school years participated in the program. An online survey was conducted after the program, and the survey results suggest that the program was more positive and successful than expected. For quantitative evaluation of the training program, five factors were analyzed, including program contents, the instructors' expertise, material usability, class participation, and timeliness. Results suggest that the program participants were highly satisfied with the program, registering a 4.7 out of 5.0 on the Likert Scale. In other words, we found that the leadership program was appropriately developed and successfully delivered to the participants. The analysis results of the qualitative evaluation of the program suggest a few of meaningful implications. First of all, we observed that the participants changed their understanding and perceptions of leadership to a greater and better degree than before they took the program. Secondly, we also discovered that they learned essential leadership skills and improved their understanding of leadership knowledge. Thirdly, most of the program’s participants said that they were highly satisfied with instructors’ expertise and their way of delivering the program’s contents. Lastly and most importantly, most participants themselves experienced a paradigm shift in leadership. In conclusion, this was a practical study of the educational ODA project. It was a meaningful study in that, through this program, we were not only able to verify the effectiveness of the contents of the domestic leadership training program for undergraduate students, but we were also able to contribute to fostering female global leaders.
