초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of behavioral problems, social competence and self-esteem between children ADHD, (both with and without depressive symptoms) in child foster care centers. The subjects comprised 82 middle, and high school students who participated in the “2013-2014 Child Welfare Project for Children’s Treatment and Rehabilitation Support Project” and had been diagnosed with ADHD and depressive symptom. They were classified into two groups, pure ADHD and comorbid ADHD with depressive symptoms. The K-CBCL 6-18, Social Competence Scale, Self-Esteem Scale, Beck Depression Inventory and Children’s Depression Inventory were used as measuring tools for this study. The results were as follows. Firstly, as a result of comparing the two groups based on K-CBCL 6-18, comorbid ADHD scored higher in Withdrawn/Depressed, Somatic Complaints, Internalizing and Externalizing, Total Problems, DSM-oriented Affective Problems and DSM-oriented Posttraumatic Stress Problems than those children with pure ADHD. Secondly, comparing the social competence scores between comorbid and pure ADHD, the comorbid ADHD group revealed lower scores in the social competence scale than the pure ADHD group. Third, comparing the self-esteem scores between the comorbid and pure ADHD groups, the comorbid ADHD group exhibited a marked lower self-esteem score than the pure ADHD group. Therefore, the results of this study suggested that comorbid ADHD with depressive symptoms has a higher degree of severity in terms of being Withdrawn/Depressed, Somatic Complaints, Internalizing and Externalizing, Total Problems, DSM-oriented Affective Problems and DSM-oriented Posttraumatic Stress Problems. Also, the comorbid ADHD group exhibited difficulties in being able to accommodate themselves, as shown in their low social competence scores and self-esteem scores compared to the pure ADHD group.
