초록

Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine disruptor, has been emphasized due to its epigenetic characteristics and potential to increase prostate cancer through second hit mechanism. However, its end points in human have not been clarified, yet. Thus, the continuous biomonitoring of BPA is an alternative strategy for prevention of BPA-related cancer. For the proper biomonitoring of BPA, BPA-contamination, which confounds real exposure of BPA, should be excluded. Most of exposed BPAs to human are metabolized into conjugated BPA in urine and the conjugated BPA in urine reflects real exposure to BPA. On the other hand, free BPA reflects contamination of BPA through handling process rather than real exposure. In the present study, we focused on container-induced BPA and compared free BPA levels in urine samples, which were stored in the plastic tubes (Conical tube 50050, PP, SPL, Pocheon, Korea), to those in BPA free-glass tubes (N=16). We quantified BPA with reverse phase-HPLC/FD methods. As a result, we found that free BPA were not detected in urine samples. Thus, the plastic containers are suitable for future BPA biomonitoring.
