초록
This study explored how confidentiality is perceived and managed by clients in workplace counseling, and how they cope with concerns regarding confidentiality. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 clients who had experienced workplace counseling, and the data were analyzed using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR). The analysis resulted in six domains and 21 categories. Clients expressed “ideas on confidentiality and disadvantages” in workplace counseling, and their “direct and indirect experiences in workplace counseling” served as ‘contextual factors.’ The study identified “reasons for using counseling that offset concerns about confidentiality,” reveling that doubts about confidentiality were both amplified and alleviated during counseling. Specifically, clients addressed confidentiality concerns by “examining the rationality,” “regulating the level of openness,” and “directly checking with the counselor.” Finally, the study highlighted a “wish for confidentiality in workplace counseling,” and discussed practical implications and suggestions for follow-up research.
