초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the baby boomer’s retirement preparation and quality of life and the mediating effect of positive and negative perception of parental caregiving on the relationship. The sample was made up of 278 baby boomers that care for their old parents. Structural equation modeling (SEM) procedures were used. The results are as follows: First, retirement preparation positively influenced the baby boomer’s positive perception of parental caregiving and their quality of life while retirement preparation decreased the negative perception of parental caregiving. Second, the positive perception of parental caregiving had a positive impact on the quality of life. Of the two types of perception, however, negative perception of parental caregiving had no significant effect on the quality of life. Third, the participants’ retirement preparation had indirect effects on quality of life through the positive perception of parental caregiving. These findings highlight the importance of retirement preparation and positive perception of parental caregiving in order to improve the baby boomer’s quality of life.
