This study examined the meditating effects of stress-coping behavior on the relationship between the paternal and maternal autonomic-control attitude and children’s psychological well-being. Survey data from 489 children in the 5th and 6th grades in elementary schools were harvested for analysis. To examine possible mediating effects, Baron and Kenny’s(1986) model was applied together with the SPSS 22.0. Sobel’s(1982) test was used to verify the significance of the mediation effects. The study revealed the following results. First, perceived parent’s autonomic-control attitude showed a significantly positive correlation to that of psychological well-being. Perceived paternal autonomic-control attitude showed a significantly correlation with stress-coping behaviors (active, aggressive), and perceived maternal autonomic-control attitude showed a significantly correlation to the stress-coping behaviors (active, aggressive, social support). Stress coping behaviors showed a significant correlation to psychological well-being. Second, the children’s stress coping behaviors(active, aggressive) exerted a partial mediating role on the perceived paternal autonomic-control attitude and psychological well-being, and children’s stress coping behaviors (active, aggressive, social support) had a partial mediating role on the perceived maternal autonomic-control attitude and psychological well-being. This study confirmed the difference of paternal and maternal influences on stress-coping behavior, and the importance of internal variables such as stress-coping behaviors, in order to improve children’s psychological well-being in psychotherapy.
